Dear Northridge West Community, Neighbors and Stakeholders:
On behalf of Northridge West Neighborhood Council, we wish our community health and wellness during these precarious times. Like many, our council has had to make the transition to virtual meetings. Since May we have been holding meetings via Zoom and teleconference. While the platform was new for many of us, the transition has been relatively successful. I would like to especially acknowledge and thank our board members for their commitment to learning the platforms and continuing to serve our community.
It has been an exciting time for our Board. In May we welcomed a new Executive Committee and appointed two new board members. Our executive board includes myself, Rana Sharif, as your humble President, Abby Bailes in the role of VP of Administration, Kelly Sooter as our VP of Outreach and Communication, Yi Ding (“Ding”) as our Secretary, and Joel Lowell as our Treasurer. Ding and Joel not only joined our executive board but were newly appointed members to the Board in May. It is a great honor to serve NWNC alongside my peers.
The election of the executive committee prompted a new term for our committees and committee work. Our committees and chairs are:
- Beautification Committee: Chaired by Kathleen Edwards
- Budget and Finance Committee: Chaired by Joel Lowell
- Bylaws, Standing, Grievance Committee: Chaired by Josh Toscano
- Education Committee: Chaired by Yi Ding
- Election Committee: Chaired by Glen Wilson
- Homelessness Committee: Gail Lapaz
- Government Affairs Committee: Abby Bailes
- Community Outreach Committee: Kelly Sooter
- Planning Land Use and Zoning Committee: N/A
- Public Safety Committee: Chaired by Kathleen Edwards
Our committees have hit the ground running already undertaking important conversations and projects. We encourage our community, neighbors, and stakeholders to reach out to committee chairs to learn more about the work they do and to get more involved. The strength and engagement of our board is only as strong and engaged as the community and neighborhood we serve. We invite all our neighbors, community members, and stakeholders to attend our General Board Meetings (GBMs) which take place the second Tuesday of each month. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our meetings will continue to take place via Zoom and teleconference for the foreseeable future. This month our meeting will be held on July 14th and we encourage you to attend. Please join us and share with us your concerns and/or suggestions.
