Northridge West Neigborhood Council Operation Clean Sweep – Week 18‏ Results

To all Northridge Stakeholders:

Fantastic! The only word to describe the overwhelming turn out of volunteers that showed up for Saturday’s Operation Clean Sweep along Tampa Avenue & Chatsworth Streets. The parents and students of Beckford Elementary School along with our dedicated volunteers turned out in force and swept the streets of Northridge sparkling clean. The dedication and hard work of these superb students, parents, and stakeholders produced so much debris being collected that we ran out of trash bags to confine it all. The energy exhibited by the students of Beckford Elementary School was unbelievable as was the ambitions, support and leadership of the parents. Their willingness to come out Saturday was inspiring and reflected their commitment to helping keep their community and the surrounding environment around Beckford Elementary School clean, green and safe.

Their efforts helped clear the debris accumulated along the east side of Tampa Ave and along the north side of Chatsworth Street where over grown trees, weeds, pine needles, pine cones, bumpers, license plates, hub caps, broken bottles, graffiti, industrial equipment littered the sidewalks, storm drains, gutters and medians impeding the path of travel while creating a safety hazards.

I would also like to thank Teri Grossman for her dedicated commitment and hard work in cleaning up Devonshire Street between Wilbur and Vanalden on Thursday morning single handed. The efforts of Jamie and Sherry Ramstead for their efforts to beautify Wilbur Street between Nordhoff and Dearborn as well as their food drive to help those in hunger.

With your help and that of the new volunteers that are stepping up and joining Operation Clean Sweep we are meeting the challenge to push back the blighted streets of this great city by demonstrating actions speak louder than words and that volunteering time and energy is fun and helps build a close knit neighborhood committed to a cleaner, greener and safer community that we all can be proud of.
