Aliso Canyon Update

As you know, on March 24, 2017 we launched a new, interactive online tool that allows members of the public to view data from a network of methane monitors that have been installed at Aliso Canyon. Eight pairs of monitors have been installed along the facility’s border with the Porter Ranch community to record methane levels around-the-clock. Since launching the online tool, we’ve received several questions from you as well as from the public via social media. To help answer some of these questions, we’ve created a new Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document. Click here to view the new FAQ.

Comments on LA County Report
EES Consulting’s report to the County demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding about how our natural gas and electricity systems work. As the State clearly recognizes, Aliso Canyon is a critical energy resource that is necessary to maintain the reliability of our region’s natural gas and electricity systems. The State’s energy experts have concluded Aliso Canyon is necessary in three consecutive technical assessments. And, unlike the County’s report, the State’s assessments have been independently reviewed or verified by experts at the National Labs.

DOGGR Letter on SS-25A
As part of our continuous monitoring process, engineers discovered a minor fluid loss in the SS-25A well, which is a separate well on the same well pad as SS-25. On March 29, the Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) requested that SoCalGas take steps to investigate and remedy the fluid loss. No natural gas has been released from the well and there is no safety concern. We do not expect any impact to the community, but wanted to make you aware that this work is taking place. Click hereto see a fact sheet with information on the well.

Well Inspections
Well inspections at Aliso Canyon continue in compliance with applicable regulations and state law. Currently, 41 wells have received final DOGGR approval, and 72 wells are currently in Phase Two of inspections. Of those 72 wells, 6 are currently undergoing diagnostic testing, while the remaining 66 are mechanically sealed and isolated from the reservoir.
