Northridge West NC Wins Awards and Recognition
On March 15, the Northridge West Neighborhood Council broke ground on a long-awaited drip irrigation system that will provide much-needed water to trees on the medians along Tampa Avenue. The Council’s tireless work on the project has been officially recognized by U.S. Congressman Brad Sherman and California Assemblymember Matt Dababneh. NWNC also received the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils award for “Collaborating with the City and Protecting the Environment”.

The New Drip System
This project would not have happened without the efforts of this and previous NWNC boards. While the ceremonial groundbreaking for the drip system make have gone off without a hitch, the project has been anything but simple. We want to thank everyone who has worked on this issue and give special thanks to NWNC Past President Tom Johnson; Debbie Penman, who tirelessly worked with contractors to obtain bids and traveled to meetings all over the Los Angeles working with City officials, and Northridge Sparkle’s Don Larson, who also worked closely with City officials and obtained the engineering drawings necessary for the project to be approved.

Sober Living Meeting March 30, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Northridge Park Gym
We are pleased to announce that preparations for the sober living meeting, scheduled for March 30th, 8:00 p.m.at the Northridge Park Gym, have been finalized. We to thank the other area Neighborhood Councils who have been integral in helping to set up this meeting: Northridge East Neighborhood Council, Northridge South Neighborhood Council, North Hills West Neighborhood Council, Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council and Chatsworth Neighborhood Council.

Presenters will include a representative from the Los Angeles Police Department; Deputy City Attorney Bill Larsen; Jared De Gonia, representing newly elected County Supervisor Kathryn Barger; a representative from newly elected Assemblymen Dante Acosta’s office, and Assemblymember Matt Debabneh. The meeting will focus on the growing proliferation of sober homes in our area and across the city. Our intention for the meeting is two-fold. First, we’d like the members of the sober living community to get a better understanding of the community they live in and how to coexist with their neighbors. And second, we’d like the community to become more educated on the issue of sober living homes and comprehend their rights when issues surface.
