Success on two fronts! Northridge West Neighborhood Council forged ahead on two fronts last Saturday. Operation Clean Sweep spearheaded by Paul Bunion, the Incredible Hulk Michayluk, his son, Edward Scissorhands Craig Byers, For Ever Young Martha Wilson & her sons Robert & Glen, along with the Energizer Bunny Sumeko Mukasa Joe (Good to see Ya!) Perez made substantial progress cleaning up the piles of debris along the north side of Plummer Street between Corbin & Shirley Streets. The Bougainvillea again proved a challenge to tackle without shedding a drop of blood. Fortunately under the watchful eye of For Ever Young Martha Wilson the mission was accomplished leaving a section of the area sparkling clean.

A thank you to all the volunteers that of Operation Clean Sweep Team for manning and forging forward along Plummer Street where portions of fallen walls and large Bougainvillea plants and trees were obstructing the pathways. Please come and join these volunteers as we continue to make Northridge a cleaner, greener and safer community to live, work, learn and play in.

The Second front was held at Calahan Elementary School where 42 individuals were provided free First Aid/CPR training by Disaster Specialists Stacy Gerlich. Each student was taught the skills necessary to possibly one day save the life of a family member, co-worker, relative or friend. The students were provided hands on training in performing proper chest compressions, clearing of obstructed airways, rescue breathing, choking procedures (Heimlich Maneuver), along with recognizing & treating heart attacks, strokes, seizures, and standard first aid training such as dressing/treating/splitting wounds . As one student described the class “. It was the best training I have ever had.”

A special thank you to Captain Stacy Gerlich for providing a Great First Aid/CPR training seminar, to Calahan Elementary School Pricipal Liane Jacob, Jennifer Cieslak and staff for hosting the First Aid/CPR training class, NWNC Board Member Gerry Malais for his assistance in setting up and training, to Sher Hogan for organizing and setting up the training and Pet Emergency Preparedness class and to our NWNC Outreach Chairwomen Juativa Spurlock for organizing, scheduling, planning the event and delious food that captured everyones attention.

Please come join our Thursday Dream TeamMarch 31 at 9am along Wilbur Avenue between Devonshire and Mayall as they transform the area back to the glitter and sparkle it once was for all the residents and daily commuters to see and enjoy
